What Are the Basic American Green Card Lottery Requirements?

What if I’m not a native of a qualifying country?

If you aren’t a native, but your parents were born in an eligible country, then you can apply for the U.S. Green Card Lottery.

Are there requirements for education in order to enter the U.S. Green Card Lottery?

Yes, you need at least a high school diploma or two years of experience at work in a qualifying occupation.

If I don’t have a full high school education, what are the work requirements?

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, your work experience needs to be in Job Zone 4 or 5, with a classification in a Specific Vocational Preparation (SVP) rating of 7 or higher. The U.S. Dept. of Labor has specific information on their website regarding education, training, job responsibilities, knowledge, skills, and other qualities needed for various occupations. Is there an age requirement to apply for the Green Card Lottery?

Yes, most applicants are 18 years or older, as applicants need a complete high school education or two years of work experience to participate.
