Here at USAFIS, we do everything we can to help foreign immigrants submit their applications for the United States Green Card Lottery. We have seen many people make unnecessary errors on their applications, so we want to educate people on the Green Card Lottery requirements.
While every situation is different, there are some basic requirements that apply to every person who wants to apply for the American Green Card Lottery.
Can I participate?
If you have a high school education or at least two years of work experience in a certain occupation, as well as being a native of a qualifying country, you can participate in the Green Card Lottery, also called the Diversity Visa Program or the DV Lottery. USAFIS has helped thousands of foreign immigrants submit their applications to get included in the Lottery.
How can I tell if I’m a native of an eligible country?
Here at USAFIS, we have a free test to find out if you are eligible for the Green Card Lottery. Countries that send fewer than 50,000 immigrants to the United States within a five-year period of time are usually eligible for the Green Card Lottery.
What if I’m not a native of a qualifying country?
If you aren’t a native, but your parents were born in an eligible country, then you can apply for the U.S. Green Card Lottery.
Of course, you will still need to meet the requirements for education or work experience. USAFIS is available to help you know your options regarding eligibility.
Are there requirements for education in order to enter the U.S. Green Card Lottery?
Yes, you need at least a high school diploma or two years of experience at work in a qualifying occupation.
If I don’t have a full high school education, what are the work requirements?
According to the U.S. Department of Labor, your work experience needs to be in Job Zone 4 or 5, with a classification in a Specific Vocational Preparation (SVP) rating of 7 or higher. The U.S. Dept. of Labor has specific information on their website regarding education, training, job responsibilities, knowledge, skills, and other qualities needed for various occupations. USAFIS helps people understand if they qualify for the work experience.
Is there an age requirement to apply for the Green Card Lottery?
Yes, most applicants are 18 years or older, as applicants need a complete high school education or two years of work experience to participate.
